Become a partner of the Australasian Space Innovation Institute
It gives me great pleasure to invite your organisation to become a partner of the Australasian Space Innovation Institute (ASII) — a new, independent, not-for-profit, enduring organisation that will create a regional ‘space-for-Earth’ innovation development & implementation engine across Australia, New Zealand, and the Indo-Pacific.
The institute was officially launched in Sydney at a VIP Breakfast attended by more than 250 distinguished guests, including Senator the Hon Tim Ayres, Australia’s Minister for Industry and Science, and The Hon Judith Collins KC, New Zealand’s Minister for Space and Defence, various federal and state MPs as well as senior members of the Department of Defence. Their presence underscored the strong support from both Governments for ASII’s mission to strengthen sovereign capability and drive innovation across the Australasian region.
ASII has been established to bring together government, industry, and research organisations to co-develop & implement next-generation space-enabled solutions harnessing world-class science & AI, to drive regional productivity, resilience and sovereign capability in critical domains such as agriculture, mining, environment, disaster management, defence, and cross-regional connectivity.
Our team are building upon the remarkable success of the SmartSat Cooperative Research Centre, which brought together more than 150 partners across government, industry, and academia, developed dozens of breakthrough technologies, and supported over 70 PhD students to grow Australia’s next generation of space scientists and engineers.
To target key areas of need, we are exploring several flagship space-tech innovation programs – known as Flagship Programs of Impact - and are seeking participation from end-user and space ecosystem stakeholders to support these initiatives and generate maximum societal impact. The programs include:
Australian Agriculture National Digital Twin
A pre-competitive, AI-enabled virtual model of Australia’s agricultural landscape, this Digital Twin project integrates satellite, drone, sensor, and climate data to drive productivity, sustainability, and resilience. This national infrastructure will help transform research, decision-making, and scenario modelling across the agricultural sector.
Maritime Space-Based Surveillance
This work will advance sovereign maritime domain awareness with a formation-flying SAR satellite system, reducing reliance on foreign systems, strengthening regional leadership, and enhancing responses to illegal fishing, natural disasters, and grey-zone threats in the Indo-Pacific.
Digital Infrastructure for Disaster Management
This program will establish a globally connected digital infrastructure, powered by satellite, AI, and advanced communications to strengthen emergency management and disaster resilience through real-time monitoring, predictive early warning, coordinated response, and informed recovery planning.
Space-Enabled Digital Innovation for Regional and Remote Community Resilience
This cornerstone program will apply space-enabled technologies to strengthen resilience, sustainability, and wellbeing across Australia’s regional and remote communities, by integrating advanced satellite communications, Earth observation, GNSS, and IoT systems into practical solutions that support community priorities.
Indo-Pacific Space Research & Applications Network (ISRANet)
This collaborative network is advancing regional space research, capability development and technology implementation, supporting priorities such as climate monitoring, food security, maritime security, and disaster management while fostering talent mobility and innovation across the Indo-Pacific.
Partnership Benefits
Partnering with ASII offers organisations:
Access to a collaborative network, linking research excellence to industry & governmental needs;
Early participation in the Flagship Programs of Impact such as SmartBush, Digital Infrastructure for Disaster Management, and the Australian Agriculture Digital Twin;
The opportunity to shape future research priorities and participate in high-impact innovation through national and Indo-Pacific consortia;
Visibility as part of a regionally significant innovation ecosystem; and
Eligibility to participate in ASII-led projects as funding opportunities arise, including opportunities to mature early-stage technology prototypes, enabling commercialization & implementation.
There is no financial commitment required to register as a partner with ASII. Partner organisations are simply asked to express their interest by completing the ASII Partner Registration Form below. This will ensure your organisation is kept informed of collaborative opportunities and future calls for participation in ASII projects.
We look forward to welcoming your organisation as a valued partner in this next chapter of Australasian space innovation.
With best regards,
Professor Andy Koronios
Chief Executive Officer
Australasian Space Innovation Institute (ASII)
